Day 6: Etsy Listing Titles

Crafting Better Etsy Listing Titles
While performing your listing audit yesterday, did you find any listings that eRank flagged for potential listing title improvements? Etsy updated and clarified its listing title guidelines in 2025 and introduced an AI tool to help sellers navigate this change (you can read Etsy’s New Guidance for Listing Titles for more information, but we’ll be covering a lot of it below!).
Why Listing Titles Matter
Etsy recommends that sellers craft their titles so that they are succinct and easy to read. Keyword stuffing, or trying to fit in as many terms as possible, usually ends in a nonsense jumble that is difficult for many shoppers to understand.
Instead, try using a few short phrases that clearly explain what the item is. Save keywords such as “gift for mom” for your tags, as this keyword doesn’t provide any insights into the item itself.
Etsy’s Guidelines for Great Titles
Etsy’s guidelines for what makes a great title include:
- Clearly state the item for sale, like “mug” or “dress”
- Include the most important traits upfront, like color, material, and size
- Only include holidays, special occasions, or recipient types if they’re essential to what the item is, like “birthday candle” or “Halloween costume”
- Move subjective words, like “perfect” or “beautiful,” to the description
- Try not to repeat words
- Don’t worry about adding info about price, shipping, or sales
Examples of Improved Titles
Here are a few examples of how sellers can restructure their titles so that they are easier to understand and less repetitive:
Etsy’s AI Tool for Title Suggestions
To help sellers adjust their listings and understand which types of titles may have more buyer appeal, Etsy introduced a new tool, accessible via the “Etsy search visibility” section in your Shop Manager. This AI tool uses a listing’s title, first photo, and description to create suggestions for improving its title.
However, it’s up to the individual seller whether they want to accept those changes. Etsy does not penalize sellers who choose not to use this tool.
When to Update Your Titles
If your listings are performing well, then there is NO need to change your listing titles. Why? You may accidentally remove keywords that your listings were ranking highly for. By removing them, Etsy’s algorithm no longer thinks that your listing is relevant for those searches. Because of this, it may fall in search ranking, or not appear in search results at all for those removed keywords.

For a deeper look into the revised guidelines and how they may impact your listings, read our Etsy Title Update 2025: How to Write Better Etsy Listing Titles blog post. Our team also covered this topic in depth during the Q&A Live Let’s talk about the NEW Etsy Listing Titles Guidelines and US Shipping and Tariffs.
Day 6’s Assignments:
- Take a look at one of Etsy’s title suggestions using their AI tool to understand the platform’s recommended title structure
- Change one underperforming listing to the new title structure, OR create a duplicate listing and test the new title format
- Remove broad, non-descriptive keywords (such as “gift for mom”) from your listings’ titles
Your Day 6 stories to share
- Choose one of the three story templates below. Click to open, download, or screenshot it.
